Kevin O’Leary, known as Mr. Wonderful, from “Shark Tank,” recently shared an unexpected statistic that caught everyone’s attention: In the corporate world, 70% of its returns come from companies led by women. He claims there is a good reason for this.
O’Leary openly shared that he’s learned a lot over the years about where to put his money for the best returns, and his experience has led him to an interesting conclusion: investing in women-led businesses pays off.
Don’t miss:
He explained that female entrepreneurs often have a strong focus on risk management and the ability to deal with complexity in ways that really appeal to him as an investor.
“If they say, ‘I have three kids,’ I don’t care,” O’Leary said. For him, the fact that women have multiple responsibilities is a testament to their capabilities, not a deterrent.
He recognizes that women often have a lot of balance, whether it’s work, family or leading a team, and he sees this as a great asset in business. “If you want something done, give it to a busy mom. They balance many things in their lives,” he exclaimed.

A key reason for the high returns of women-led companies is their ability to manage risk. He described how women are generally more careful when growing their businesses. They make smart, informed decisions instead of choosing the high-risk, high-reward game. “They understand risk mitigation,” O’Leary said. This means they are less likely to make reckless decisions, keeping the businesses they run on track, even in tough times.

Another reason O’Leary likes to invest in women-led businesses is their tenacity. He shared a story about a female entrepreneur who refused to leave the set of “Shark Tank” without securing his investment. Although he initially doubted her affairs, her persistence won him over. “She had balls,” O’Leary began to explain vividly, “she just wouldn’t stop, and I thought, if she does this to me, what’s she going to do when she goes out into the real world? She is a murderer.”
That company eventually became one of his most profitable investments. For O’Leary, the passion and drive of female entrepreneurs often translates into great results for investors.
He added that, in his experience, women have an incredible ability to execute and get things done, even when faced with challenges.
