Iga Swiatek, the world’s number 2 women’s tennis player, has been given a one-month ban after testing positive for a banned substance.
The four-time French Open champion, 23, tested positive for trimetazidine, a drug mainly used to prevent heart attacks.
“The player was provisionally suspended from September 22 to October 4 as he missed three tournaments, which counts towards the sanction, leaving eight days remaining,” the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) said in a statement.
Swiatek won her fourth French Open earlier this year. She also won the US Open in 2022.
