I’m a full-time travel journalist and this is my favorite carry-on suitcase

As a full-time travel writer, I’ve tried and tested dozens of suitcases over the years, from big, fancy suitcases (my favorite is this Away suitcase) to tiny carry-on options for use on planes, trains, and cars. Different suitcases suit (pun intended) different styles of travel, so I have a few favorites that I use regularly.

For the past six months, I’ve been using the Platinum® Elite Carry-On Business Plus Hardside Spinner and have quickly become obsessed with it. I’d actually never heard of the brand until earlier this year, but what really caught my attention was the suitcase’s external laptop sleeve. This feature is becoming more common on backpacks, but not yet on suitcases and I’m not sure why. So many of us travel with laptops and having easy access to them is incredibly helpful.

As much as I love getting away from screens, I ALWAYS travel with my laptop and it’s a hassle to get my laptop out of its case on a plane or in the airport. This case solves that problem. There’s no easy way to open a case on a plane (or even in the airport lounge) to get a laptop, so this new design is a game changer for those of us who like to work or watch movies on our laptops in the airport and on a plane.

Although this is called a “business” suitcase, I would wager that most people who travel with a laptop are not really business travelers. Laptops are simply a part of life for most people, including the growing number of location-independent nomads who travel not for work, but rather for fun, but still work while they are there. I also meet many vacationers who bring their laptops so they can watch movies or video chat with family on the big screen in the evening.

This stylish suitcase also features smooth-rolling 360 wheels for a smooth ride through airports, and external USB-A and C ports, which are handy for anyone traveling with phones, headphones, tablets, and other electronics. I can’t tell you how many times my electronics have died on me while traveling, and the ability to charge them straight from my suitcase could have prevented that. Additionally, this suitcase’s adjustable handle has multiple heights, meaning it’s comfortable for travelers of all heights.

While I’ve primarily used this suitcase for air travel, I also took it on a recent family road trip to Indianapolis, an incredible city that my family has visited several times over the past few years. For our most recent trip, we stayed at the centrally located Hotel Indy , which allowed us to easily walk to some of our favorite spots, including White River State Park, the Indiana State Museum, and the Eiteljorg Native and Western Art Museum, which is located right on the city’s beautiful canal.
