More dry conditions led to more wildfires across the region, with New Jersey seeing several plumes reaching as far north as New York. Fortunately, we’re seeing some relief, with rain returning late Sunday afternoon into the evening.
Rain on Sunday means we’ll see the first measurable rainfall since late September!
It looks like this storm will hold and end the record 42 days without rain we are currently in.
The massive system has already delivered several feet of snow to areas across the Rockies and into New Mexico; While we won’t have even a fraction of the moisture to work with, some areas can expect 0.25 to 0.75 inches of rain Monday morning.
Prediction: Clouds will spread across the area on Sunday and light showers are possible between 4pm and 6pm. The air above our heads is still very dry, so it may be a few hours before you see anything hit the ground. Periods of persistent rain are possible between 7pm and 5am on Monday, with several waves of showers passing through the area.
Monday morning’s commute looks dry, with most of the precipitation clearing the area before 7 a.m.
Although the expected amounts are not much, they will at least help the firefighters with firefighting wildfires in New Jersey and help settle the dust in the region. Even better news is a second chance of rain next Thursday, although that doesn’t appear to be much at the moment.
Temperatures will also drop. The summer-like temperatures are over. Instead, we will hover around or below average in the 50s during the day and 30s at night. That’s where we need to be at this time of year.
