Three Hoosier lawmakers — Democrats who serve in the Indiana House of Representatives — will attend a White House convention on Wednesday devoted to gun violence prevention.

They are Representatives Maureen Bauer of South Bend, Carey Hamilton of Indianapolis and Ragen Hatcher of Gary.

“These lawmakers were invited to this conference because of their commitment to preventing gun violence in their communities and across the state,” the Indiana House Democratic Caucus said in a news release.

They will join state lawmakers from across the country at President Joe Biden’s Safer States Legislative Convening. There will be lectures from senior White House officials and state leaders, along with group discussions.

The Biden administration convened healthcare executives, leaders, practitioners and providers on the topic earlier this month.

June is National Gun Violence Awareness Month.

This isn’t the first time lawmakers have gone to the White House. In June 2023, Hamilton joined lawmakers from across the country for a White House discussion on state child care policies. Hatcher and Bauer also attended a gun prevention meeting with the Biden-Harris administration in December 2023.
