Indiana unemployment claims rose last week

The number of jobless claims in Indiana rose last week compared to the previous week, the U.S. Department of Labor reported Thursday.

The number of new applications for unemployment benefits, a proxy for layoffs, rose to 3,902 in the week ended Aug. 24, up from 3,685 the week before, the Labor Department said.

U.S. jobless claims fell to 231,000 last week, down 2,000 from 233,000 claims the previous week, after seasonal adjustment.

North Dakota saw the largest percentage increase in weekly claims, with claims increasing by 313.7%. New Hampshire, meanwhile, saw the largest percentage decrease in new claims, with claims dropping by 24%.
