San Bernardino County sheriff’s officials continue to investigate after a man shot two men, killing one, at an auto repair shop in Apple Valley.
Leon Sanchez, 46, is accused of fatally shooting Frank Portillo, 31, of Hesperia, and seriously wounding Joshua Augsburger, 44, of Apple Valley, sheriff’s officials said.
Authorities said officers were dispatched to a reported shooting at an auto repair shop at 13600 Quinnault Road on Friday, September 20 at 4:04 p.m.
Arriving officers found Sanchez armed with a handgun. He was arrested without incident, sheriff’s officials said.
Sanchez was found to be in possession of a valid San Bernardino County concealed firearm permit, authorities said.
Officers also located Portillo and Augsburger, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Life-saving measures were performed on both men, authorities said.
Portillo died at the scene and Augsburger was taken to a trauma center for treatment, where he remains in critical condition. His condition Monday is unknown, sheriff’s officials said.
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division, Homicide Unit, took over the investigation and discovered that Portillo and Augsburger had arrived at the garage and confronted Sanchez.
During an argument, witnesses heard Portillo threatening Sanchez. As the situation escalated, Sanchez allegedly shot at Portillo and Augsburger, hitting both of them, sheriff’s officials said.
No other information was available, including a motive for the shooting, police said.
The investigation is ongoing. The case will be reviewed by the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office.
