Israel confirms the killing of a Gaza volunteer in connection with the October 7 attack

Israel said on Saturday it killed an aid worker accused of involvement in the October 7 attacks, while Palestinian sources reported dozens of deaths in Israeli strikes in Gaza.

The incident left five people dead in an attack on a car near the southern town of Khan Younis, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported. Among them are said to be three employees of the aid organization World Central Kitchen (WCK).

The charity said it was “heartbroken to share that a vehicle carrying colleagues from World Central Kitchen was hit by an Israeli airstrike in Gaza.”

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated that they had been monitoring a suspected militant based on “credible information about his real-time location.”

It added that Israel has repeatedly urged aid agencies to release the names of local personnel to prevent terrorists from exploiting the humanitarian sector for cover.

The man targeted in the attack is believed to have been involved in the massacre by Hamas militants in Israel on October 7, 2023, which sparked the Gaza war. The IDF statement did not include information about the other people killed in the attack.

In April, seven WCK employees were killed in an Israeli attack in the Gaza Strip. At the time, the Israeli army admitted a “serious failure.”

After the latest incident, WCK said it was “not aware that any individual in the vehicle was associated with the October 7 Hamas attack.”

It also confirmed that it was “suspending operations in Gaza.”

Elsewhere on Saturday, WAFA reported that eight people were killed in another Israeli airstrike near Khan Younis, citing medical sources.

Meanwhile, in the northern coastal strip, WAFA reported another fourteen deaths in Israeli attacks in Gaza City. The IDF said it was investigating the reports, which could not be independently verified.
