Israel hits the outskirts of Beirut with more airstrikes

The Israeli army has again bombed buildings near the Lebanese capital Beirut, with a DPA reporter counting at least eight loud explosions.

The airstrikes followed several evacuation calls from the Israeli army to residents of the suburbs known as Dahieh. There was initially no information about possible damage or casualties.

Despite new efforts to broker a ceasefire in Lebanon, armed clashes between the pro-Iranian Hezbollah militia and the Israeli army have escalated in recent days.

The Shiite militia fired about 240 rockets at targets in Israel on Saturday. In southern Lebanon, heavy fighting broke out around the town of Khiam as the Israeli air force stepped up its attacks over the weekend.
