Israeli drone kills Hamas commander in southern Lebanon

An Israeli drone plowed into a car deep in southern Lebanon on Friday, killing a Hamas member, Lebanese and Palestinian security sources said.

The head of Hamas security in the Palestinian refugee camp of Ain al-Hilweh, 40 kilometers (25 miles) south of Beirut, was killed in a drone strike that fired two missiles at his SUV, a Lebanese security source said.

The Palestinian militant organization Hamas mourned in a statement Samer al-Haj, who was killed in a “Zionist attack” in the port city of Sidon.

The Israeli military confirmed the attack, saying an aircraft struck an area in Sidon and “killed the terrorist Samer Mahmoud al-Haj, a senior commander of the Hamas terrorist organization in Lebanon, who was responsible for carrying out terrorist attacks and launching projectiles from Lebanon into Israeli territory.”

According to the Israeli military, al-Haj served as commander of forces at the Ain al-Hilweh camp and was responsible for recruiting and training terrorists to attack the State of Israel.
