Temperatures continue to rise this week, with record temperatures possible on Thursday afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms return on Friday, briefly cooling high temperatures.
Hotter and drier weather continued to push into New Mexico on Wednesday. A few isolated storms developed today, mainly in southeastern New Mexico. These storms ended tonight. Temperatures were anywhere from a few degrees to almost 20° warmer than Tuesday afternoon, as we get closer to the hottest day of the week and for some, the hottest day yet this year.
High pressure will move across New Mexico on Thursday, bringing record and near-record temperatures across the state, with most of New Mexico climbing into the 90s and 100s. The cloud cover could keep high temperatures a few degrees cooler than previously forecast, as some dry thunderstorms could also develop over the mountains on Thursday afternoon.
A storm system will move into New Mexico on Friday, bringing isolated and scattered rain and storm chances to much of New Mexico through Friday night. This also keeps temperatures much cooler in the northwest part of the state, but still very hot in southern New Mexico. The rain and storms will clear early Saturday morning, with drier weather returning soon. Temperatures will also warm through the weekend, and by Father’s Day temperatures will be back into the 90s and 100s for the most part.
The heat will continue until the middle of next week with dry weather. Strong gusts of wind may also occur early next week.
