Jared McCain feels like he’s “in 2K right now.” Here’s what his first-round pick says the Sixers are best at.

CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) — Jared McCain And Breathe Bona walked into the Philadelphia 76ers training complex on Friday with a big smile on his face, coincidentally wearing a crisp white shirt.

Both shared recent stormy experiences since being drafted by the Sixers this week.

“It’s been pretty hectic. Obviously I’m living my dream right now, so I’m trying to be there,” McCain said. “I try to soak up every moment, but it’s hard when I’m an NBA player right now. It’s crazy. It feels like I’m in 2K right now.”

McCain, who was drafted 16th overall in the 2024 NBA draft, soaked up the atmosphere of Philadelphia and even the smallest details, like finding a place to live.

On the court, McCain is eager to tap into his game IQ, something he feels is underrated. He aims to blend in and learn from Tyrese Maxey, particularly his ball handling and pick-and-roll execution. He’s also determined to grow defensively.

Coming out of Duke, McCain is expected to be a versatile, playmaking guard for the Sixers. He emphasized the importance of learning from everyone, staying true to oneself and shutting out the haters.

With their championship aspirations in sight, these two rookies are ready to shine.

“When the lights are the brightest, that’s when I want to show up and be myself on the field,” McCain said.

Bona’s journey was equally emotional. The great man describes a roller coaster of feelings from happiness to joy. He said he could “feel the energy through the phone” when speaking to the front office, sensing the hard-working ethos and high expectations of the organization.

“It’s so surreal to have your name mentioned. Like, I’m an NBA player now,” Bona said. “We work towards this goal every day of our lives to get here, and we are here now.”

Bona, a UCLA alumnus with Nigerian and Turkish heritage, is excited to learn from Cameroonian star Joel Embiid, who shares similar African roots. He anticipates the challenge of practicing against Embiid daily, describing it as a “handful of work.”

“Every time I step on the floor, I bring all the energy I can give,” Bona said. “I think Philly is going to get one of the hardest workers in the draft.”

Recognized as the 2023-24 Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, Bona is committed to making significant contributions through his defensive skills, athleticism and relentless work ethic. His background in soccer has gifted him with exceptional speed, agility and mobility.

Both McCain and Bona are hungry to win and are eagerly looking forward to the coming months, ready to prove themselves in the NBA Summer League and beyond.

The future looks bright for the Sixers with these two promising prospects ready to adapt and take it to the next level.
