Rappers Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs have been accused in a civil lawsuit of raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000.
The lawsuit, which was originally filed in October and refiled Sunday in New York to add Jay-Z to the list of defendants, alleges that the victim, identified only as a woman now living in Alabama, was assaulted by both men Raped at a Video Music Awards Afterparty.
Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, called the allegations an “attempted blackmail” in a statement. Combs’ attorney denied the allegations.
The lawsuit alleges that the girl went to the VMAs in New York City without a ticket hoping to get in, but was instead invited to an after-party by a limousine driver who claimed to work for Combs. The limousine driver allegedly drove her to the party, where she was told to sign what she believes was a non-disclosure agreement, the lawsuit alleges.
While inside, the lawsuit alleges, “plaintiff, after attempting to talk to numerous celebrities, accepted a drink from one of the waitresses circulating through the crowd.” The lawsuit claims she began feeling “woozy and lightheaded” after drinking “some of the liquor” and went to find a place to lie down. She entered a room where there was a bed and shortly after she lay down, Combs, Carter and an unnamed female celebrity who recognized the alleged victim entered the room, the lawsuit alleges.
The lawsuit then alleges that Carter held her down and raped her while Combs and the female celebrity watched. Then Combs also raped her while Carter and the woman watched, the complaint alleges. Combs then tried to force the girl to perform oral sex on him, but she managed to hit him, grab her clothes, wrap them around her and run away, the lawsuit said.
“Although there were other guests at the party, no one appeared to take note of the plaintiff’s distress or attempt to assist her,” the complaint alleges.
According to the lawsuit, after leaving the house and putting her clothes back on, the girl managed to run back to a gas station she had seen on her way to the party, where a clerk “noticed her distress and allowed her to answer the phone.” to use’. .” She then allegedly used the phone to call her father and have him picked up.
The woman is claiming unspecified damages.
In response to the filing, Carter said in a statement: “My attorney received a blackmail attempt, a so-called demand letter, from an ‘attorney’ named Tony Buzbee. What he calculated was the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would ensure that I wants to settle. No sir, it had the opposite effect!
“Only your network of conspiracy theorists, fake physics, will believe the idiotic claims you have made against me which, without the severity of the harm to children, would be laughable,” the statement added.
Teny Geragos, an attorney representing Combs, said in a statement: “This amended complaint and the recent racketeering case against Mr. Buzbee expose his barrage of lawsuits against Mr. Combs for what they are: shameless publicity stunts designed to extract payments from celebrities to enforce. who fear lies are being spread about them, just as lies have been spread about Mr. Combs, Mr. Combs has complete confidence in the facts and the integrity of the judicial process. In court, the truth will prevail: that Mr. Combs never sexually abused or trafficked anyone – male or female, adult or minor.”
Buzbee was sued last month by an anonymous male celebrity, who claims the attorney tried to extort payments by threatening to file sexual assault charges, which the celebrity denies. Buzbee, for his part, denies the extortion allegations.
Buzbee did not immediately respond to a CBS News request for comment. On Sunday evening, he posted on Instagram that a “coordinated and aggressive effort” has been made against him, including “filing frivolous cases against me and my law firm, defaming me with outrageous claims to anyone who will listen, and having mysterious people. me and my family.”
“People will see through this attempt to discredit me and my clients and the truth will come out. I will also not allow anyone to scare the hell out of my clients,” Buzbee wrote.
Combs is currently in custody in New York awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges. His attempts to secure bail have been rejected several times.
Combing laundry arrested in September and charged with sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and transportation to engage in prostitution, with prosecutors accusing him of using his business empire to commit repeated abuse over the years. He has denied being guilty of the charges.
