Jennifer Canady and Josie Tomkow of Polk County have been named chairs of Florida House committees

New Florida House Speaker Daniel Perez, R-Miami, has named two Polk County lawmakers to lead committees for the 2025 session.

Perez appointed Rep. Jennifer Canady, R-Lakeland, to chair the Education and Employment Committee. Canady, who was re-elected to a second term on Tuesday, will serve as Speaker of the House of Representatives in 2028.

Perez appointed Rep. Josie Tomkow, R-Polk City, to chair the Health and Human Services Committee. Tomkow was re-elected Tuesday for what will be her fourth and final term in the House of Representatives.

House Democrats selected Rep. Fentrice Driskell, D-Tampa, as House minority leader. Driskell is a native of Polk County and a graduate of Lake Gibson High School in Lakeland.
