Jeremy Renner Opens Up About Refusing to Return to ‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’

After starring in two Mission Impossible movies – 2011 Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and 2015 Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Jeremy Renner is speaking out about his refusal to return for his third film in the franchise.

In an interview on the Happy sad confused podcast, Renner told host Josh Horowitz that it was too much of a time commitment because his daughter was so young at the time that he couldn’t stay away from filming for that long. But he found his interest waning after learning he would be spending a week filming so his character, IMF agent William Brandt, could be killed off.

‘I remember they tried to persuade me[seas] for a week so they could kill off my character, and I was like, ‘No, you can’t do that. You’re not going to drag me out there and just kill my character, ‘get out of here!’ Renner said. “If you’re going to do this and use my character, you’re going to do it right.”

“I shouted at it [director Christopher McQuarrie]”, Renner added with a laugh. “Dude, you’re not going to do this to me like that; You’re not going to hurt me.”

Renner recently told Collider in an interview that now that his daughter Ava is older, he would be open to a return.

“I had to do more with them,” Renner said of the Mission Impossible form. “I love those guys. I love Tom so much. We had so much fun and I love that character very much. It takes a lot of time away. It’s all in London. I had to become a father. Then it just wouldn’t work. Maybe that can happen now that my daughter is older. I would always jump into one Mission Impossible anytime and back to Brandt. It is awesome.”
