JetBlue customers flying a transatlantic flight will now be served cold meals.
The airline has removed hot meals from its economy class menus after launching new food offerings on its seasonal flights to Dublin and Edinburgh this summer, JetBlue told CBS MoneyWatch.
Instead of serving hot meals on its six transatlantic daily flights this autumn, the airline will serve cold dishes from a new ‘core menu’ created in partnership with salad and healthy food chain DIG.
“The menu, created in partnership with DIG, meets the standard we set for high-quality meals,” JetBlue said in a statement. “This change is part of our efforts to ensure we continue to provide a great experience on these routes at JetBlue’s competitive fares.”
The airline’s new menu has been in effect in all transatlantic markets since early September. It includes a note at the top for passengers that reads: “All items served chilled.”
However, no changes have been made to JetBlue’s premium Mint Cabin meal service on transatlantic routes, which the airline first launched in 2021. JetBlue has differentiated itself from other airlines in part through its superior food and beverage offerings. For example, Mint customers flying to and from Amsterdam, London and Paris can select hot and cold meals from a menu at renowned Sicilian-inspired eatery Bar Pasquale in New York City.
Here’s a look at what’s offered on JetBlue’s new coach menu:
- Choose a crepe for breakfast, overnight oats or a frittata for the main course, and grapes and pears; or coconut yoghurt as a side dish.
- For lunch, customers can choose from a chicken grain bowl or ginger-garlic tofu. Side dishes include a kale-apple salad and green beans.
- Alternative dinners include pesto pasta salad or mushrooms and lentils. Side dishes include a tomato and cucumber salad and buffalo cauliflower.
