After the New York Jets suffered a tough 26-21 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, Jets cornerback DJ Reed pointed the finger at the officials.
The Jets, who did not score after halftime, were bogged down by penalties throughout the game, and especially in the second half. The referees prompted Reed to express his dissatisfaction on social media shortly after the match.
In a post on X, Reed tagged the NFL officiating account with a censored curse. “You FXCKING suck, you guys should be ashamed of yourselves!” Reed wrote.
New York finished the game with 12 penalties, resulting in 83 yards lost, compared to the Seahawks’ five penalties for 50 yards.
One of these Jets penalties was an early holding call on Reed, which was flagged in the first quarter while covering Seattle receiver Tyler Lockett. The drive later resulted in the first touchdown of the game for the Seahawks.
Four of the Jets’ penalties resulted in Seattle first downs, including on a pair of fourth-and-short downs and other high-impact situations. Midway through the fourth quarter, a big fourth-and-one stop by the Jets was negated by a horse-collar tackle on Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet, who ran in for the winning touchdown on the same salvaged drive.
Reed, a former Seahawk for two seasons, finished the game with a strong stat line against his former team, making four solo tackles out of seven total and a deflected pass. But his success didn’t carry over to the rest of New York, who fell to 3-9 and are now assured of their ninth straight losing season.
