It looks like Haason Reddick has finally put an end to his postponement. According to multiple reports, the dynamic edge rusher and the New York Jets have agreed to a reworked “short-term” contract. No details about that deal have been released.
Reddick will report Monday and he and his agents will continue working on a multi-year contract with the Jets.
“We will continue to work on a long-term extension with the Jets,” Reddick’s new agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Reddick, 30, will be in his eighth NFL season once he finally appears in a game with the Jets. Reddick’s real break was being drafted in the first round by the Arizona Cardinals in 2017 and came with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022. He played every game and finished the season with a career-high 16 sacks, 49 combined tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, and 26 QB hits. He was named to the Pro Bowl, the AP named him a second-team All-Pro, and he finished fourth in voting for defensive player of the year.
Reddick had made a lot of noise about wanting a restructured contract before the Eagles traded him in March, and that didn’t stop when the trade fell through. Just a few months later, the smell of trouble started to emanate from this trade, when Reddick failed to show up for OTAs in May and failed to appear for mandatory minicamp in June. When training camp started the next month, Reddick was nowhere to be found.
And that’s pretty much how it was until recently. Reddick’s agency, CAA, dropped him on October 10, leaving him without representation. A few days later, he hired Rosenhaus with the intention of working out a deal to return to the Jets.
And returning is what he will do on Monday. It’s easier said than done, as Reddick has spent almost all of his time with the Jets chasing a better contract, but the Jets need help on the field. If Reddick can actually help them, it will be like this never happened.
