John Lynch: We feel the urgency to get Brandon Aiyuk and Trent Williams back

Updates on the status of the 49ers’ talks with wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and left tackle Trent Williams have been hard to come by, and that continued to be the case Thursday.

General manager John Lynch said on KNBR that there has been “good communication” with representatives for both players, but that they “just haven’t reached any breakthroughs” that would end the contractual standoff with either player. That comes a day after head coach Kyle Shanahan gave much the same message, with Lynch saying the team knows there’s not much more to say and not much time left to get things done before the season starts.

“I’m not going to get into all the details,” Lynch said, via 49ersWebzone.com. “I think we’re in a time of uncertainty where anything that’s said can be investigated and all that. So we’re going to leave it at that. No updates, and we’re going to keep working. I know the fans are excited, and the season is right around the corner. I can tell everybody this, we feel the urgency to get all of our players back. We’re really excited about our team, and those are two guys that have been a huge part of us, a huge part of our success, so we’d like to get them both back on the team.”

Lynch said, “We’re not there yet, but we’re getting close” when asked if any of the players’ Week 1 availability is in doubt because of their waivers. He reiterated that the 49ers feel good about the players who are there.
