Johnny Gaudreau’s Wife Speaks Out After His Tragic Death: ‘You Were Perfect’

Johnny Gaudreau’s wife, Meredith, is mourning the loss of her NHL husband after he and his brother were killed in a tragic bicycle accident.

On Aug. 31, Meredith Gaudreau shared two Instagram posts paying tribute to her late husband Johnny, 31. In both posts, she included a slideshow of photos of her and the Columbus Blue Jackets player over the years.

In a message, she wrote: “Thank you for the best years of my life. Even though I lost you, I am still the luckiest girl in the world to have had you. I love you so much. You were perfect. Sometimes it felt too good to be true. I love everything about you. You are mine forever and I can’t wait to be with you again. I love you so much, always and forever.”

In her second tribute, Meredith Gaudreau took aim at her husband’s parenting skills. The duo share two children, Noa, 1, and baby boy, Johnny, together.

She said, “The best dad in the world. So caring and loving. The best partner to parent with. John never missed an appointment. Was the best at putting the baby to sleep and the apple of Noa’s eye. I love how much she looks like him. We are going to make you proud. We love you so much, Daddy.”

According to NBC Philadelphia, police say Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew, 29, died on the night of August 29 when they were struck by an alleged drunk driver while riding bicycles in their New Jersey hometown. The siblings were pronounced dead at the scene.

On X, the Blue Jackets shared a statement regarding the brothers’ deaths.

“The Columbus Blue Jackets are shocked and devastated by this unimaginable tragedy. Johnny was not only a great hockey player, but most importantly, a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend. We extend our sincere condolences to his wife, Meredith, his children, Noa and Johnny, his parents, their families and friends on the sudden loss of Johnny and Matthew,” their statement read.
