Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign and affiliated party committees have raised more than $1 billion since she entered the race for the White House in late July, NBC News and The New York Times reported Wednesday.
Harris’ fundraising pace is historic and eye-popping. The $1 billion is more than rival Republican party Donald Trump and his affiliated party committees have announced they will increase throughout 2024, the newspaper said. The former president also declared his candidacy much earlier, in November 2022.
The campaign has not yet disclosed its $1 billion raise “out of concern that bragging about the flood of donations could dampen donor interest in the final weeks of the race,” the Times wrote.
Last month, Harris’ campaign announced that it had raised $361 million in August — easily drowning out the $130 million Trump raised during the same period.
Harris campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said at the time that the vice presidential candidacy “has produced a historic, broad and diverse coalition – with the kind of enthusiasm, energy and perseverance that wins close elections.”
The 2024 race remains very close with less than four weeks until Election Day, and even a small error in the polls could lead to all kinds of unexpected outcomes. Trump and Harris are tied in most polls of contested battleground states and within the margin of error. However, Harris maintains a slight lead over Trump in national surveys and has seen her approval ratings on key issues such as the economy improve in recent weeks.
