The Republican in line to chair the Senate Judiciary Committee wrote Sunday that Kash Patel must “prove to Congress that he will reform and restore public confidence in the FBI.”

Trump said Saturday he planned for Patel to replace Wray, who was appointed by Trump in 2017 after Trump fired James Comey. The position must still be confirmed by the Senate.
Wray’s term doesn’t end until 2027, so if he doesn’t resign on his own, Trump would have to fire him before the job becomes vacant.
First elected in 1980, Grassley is the senior member of the U.S. Senate and the sixth-longest serving senator in U.S. history. He is known for his dedicated support of whistleblowers. “Whistleblowers are patriots and our most powerful tool in rooting out waste, fraud, abuse and misconduct,” he said in a Senate speech in March.
