The horror film skewers Hollywood’s expectations for actresses over 50, led by a physically demanding performance from Moore, who said she was on the verge of quitting acting before taking on the role. When: Katy Perry’s 143 will be released on September 20th.

What you need to know: The first few singles from Perry’s new album haven’t done great — she seems stuck in the 2010s era where she was at her peak, and she’s stirred up a few controversies — but there’s no denying that she’s one of the most iconic pop stars to ever do so. Watching Perry perform a medley of her biggest hits in front of a stadium full of screaming fans live at the VMAs reminded me just how phenomenal she can be. Another of Rumaan Alam’s novels, Leave the world behind, was nominated for a National Book Award and the film adaptation, starring Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke, is now available on Netflix.
