The Keller Fire in the East Oakland Hills was 90% contained Monday morning, fire officials said.
The wind-driven fire broke out Friday around 2:25 p.m. near Keller Avenue and Interstate Highway 580. and spread quickly, damaging two homes and forcing hundreds of residents to evacuate.
More than two dozen firefighters remained on the scene Monday morning, Oakland fire spokesman Michael Hunt said.
“Community members are advised that the odor of smoke in the Keller fire area is likely to persist for the next few days and is not necessarily indicative of an ongoing fire,” Hunt said.
Two houses were damaged and about a dozen were threatened at the height of the fire. No injuries have been reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The remaining evacuation orders for the area were lifted Sunday evening. A temporary shelter for residents at the Ira Jenkins Community Center was closed Sunday evening.
While the Oakland Fire Department battled the blaze, approximately 200 firefighters from various Bay Area fire departments were called in to support the Oakland department. Cal Fire assisted with air support.
