BOSTON — Even before Kenny Chesney filled Gillette Stadium for three nights in a row last month, several Massachusetts charities were applauding his quiet generosity.
“When Kenny’s team called and said we were getting a very generous gift, that was wonderful news,” said Jackie Smith, vice president of development at the Animal Rescue League of Boston.
The Animal Rescue League of Boston is celebrating 125 years of helping animals in need and keeping them healthy and safe in their homes. Last year alone, the ARL helped nearly 21,000 animals in Massachusetts — through adoption, food and supplies, and medical care.
ARL relies solely on donations
“I think a lot of people assume that there is government funding for animal shelters. There actually isn’t. The ARL relies solely on donations because we don’t get any government grants or public funding,” she explained.
And just as Chesney showcases his beloved dog Poncho on stage and on social media, his dedication to this cause is generating valuable exposure.
“We hope that people get to know us, that the bright spotlight that he has shines on us. It all makes a difference. It helps all of us help animals and the people who love them,” Smith added.
