Kerr believes Warriors’ tough rotation decisions originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
Steve Kerr will have to make some tough decisions regarding the Warriors’ rotations and lineups throughout the 2024-2025 NBA season.
But he doesn’t necessarily see that as a bad thing.
Because of the talent on Golden State’s roster, from No. 1 to No. 15, Kerr is comfortable with the depth if a starter or role player is unavailable on a given night.
And while there’s been a lot of talk about who should and who shouldn’t play, Kerr sees a silver lining through all the complicated choices.
“We have a whole roster full of guys who are capable of playing in the rotation,” Kerr told reporters after Golden State’s blowout preseason win against the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday at Chase Center. “I have some very tough decisions to make on Wednesday night in Portland. Literally every guy on our roster is capable of being in the rotation – which bodes well for the 82-game season. I think we’ll be well suited to injuries and other absences. We are well prepared and well supplied to field a very good group of players.
“But it makes for tough decisions and we’ll see where we go on Wednesday. But any way you look at it, we’re going to have to leave some good players out of the rotation. I don’t know who that goes to.” I haven’t decided yet, because I haven’t seen the divorce, because they have all been very good.
The Warriors have made some small but important additions this season, including the acquisitions of De’Anthony Melton, Buddy Hield and Kyle Anderson – all players who should play significant minutes this season.
Then there’s the team’s 2021 draft duo of Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody, who have seen their roles and minutes fluctuate over the past three seasons despite impressive performances.
It will also be a big Year 2 for Brandin Podziemski and Trayce Jackson-Davis, both of whom were impactful, high-level rookies last season.
Andrew Wiggins is due for a recovery season, but has Kerr run out of patience?
Kerr has stated that only two positions are committed to starting: Steph Curry and Draymond Green. Everything else is fair game.
While Kerr will have to make these tough decisions in less than four days and then every game afterward, he is confident in the team’s progress.
