Kevin McCarthy urges Trump to stop obsessing over crowd size

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy (R-California) has some advice for Donald Trump: he no longer wants to focus on the large crowds that attend rallies for his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris.

In an interview on Monday Fox NewsMcCarthy said Harris was the “perfect person to run against” because she, he claimed, is “the biggest turncoat” on policy, but he indicated the former president was squandering the opportunity.

It appears the Democratic Party’s new candidacy has gained tremendous support, as evidenced by the approximately 15,000 people who gathered for a rally near Detroit last Wednesday.

Trump claimed on Sunday that a photo of the event was generated by AI — a suggestion quickly and widely debunked — and continued to rail against crowds at his own rallies.

“You can’t base this race on personalities,” McCarthy said, apparently reflecting the broader GOP frustration with Trump’s recent tactics. “Stop questioning the size of her audience and start questioning her standing, in terms of: What did she do as attorney general on crime? Ask what did she do when she was supposed to be the czar of the border?”

On Friday, the Republican presidential candidate spoke to reporters at his Florida estate, making clear that he has been drawing large crowds during his campaign amid the uproar surrounding Harris’ rallies.

He even went so far as to compare the size of the crowd at the White House on January 6, 2021, to the audience for Martin Luther King Jr.’s 1963 “I Have A Dream” speech.

On Sunday, he continued his fixation when he posted the unsubstantiated claim about AI on his social media platform Truth Social.

“Did anyone notice Kamala CHEATING at the airport? There was no one on the plane, and she ‘AI’d’ it, showing a huge ‘crowd’ of so-called followers, BUT THEY DID NOT EXIST! She was reported by a maintenance worker at the airport when he saw the fake photo of the crowd, but there was no one there, which was later confirmed by the reflection of the mirror-like finish on the Vice Presidential Plane,” he wrote.
