The human trafficking case of Sean “Diddy” Combs has sparked interest in — and speculation about — his relationship with ex-girlfriend Kim Porter, who died in 2018 at age 47.
The jailed rap mogul and his children released statements on Sept. 24 criticizing what they consider a fake memoir allegedly written by the late model that was published this month.
They also cited “horrific conspiracy theories” surrounding Porter’s death, and maintained that there was no foul play. Since Diddy’s arrest on September 16 and subsequent charges of racketeering, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution, there have been calls for an investigation into Porter’s death, particularly from singer-songwriter Al B. Sure!, the father of Porter’s eldest child, Quincy Brown.
What just happened?
Diddy and Porter’s four children released statements ripping up the 59-page memoir, Kim’s Lost Words: A Journey for Justice, from the Other Side… The book, which Chris Todd self-published under the pseudonym Jamal T. Millwood, is on Amazon’s Top 20 Books list this week, despite Todd saying he can’t guarantee the memoir’s authenticity.
“The Kim Porter ‘memoir’ is a hoax,” Diddy’s attorney Erica Wolf said in a statement. “It is also insulting — a brazen attempt to profit from tragedy.”
The statement continued: “Contrary to the fabrications in his disgusting ‘memoirs’, it is an established fact that Mrs Porter died of natural causes. May she rest in peace.”
Porter’s children — Brown, Christian Combs, Jessie Combs and D’Lila Combs — responded to the “hurtful and false rumors” in their own statement, posted to their Instagram accounts.
They said it is ‘simply not true’ that Porter has written a book.
As for the “horrific conspiracy theories” that Diddy was involved in her death, which are mentioned both in the book and online, they said they are “deeply saddened that the world has made a spectacle of what has been the most tragic event of our lifetime.”
“Our lives were shattered when we lost our mother. She was our world. And nothing has been the same since she passed,” they wrote. That said, “the cause of her death has long been determined” as lobar pneumonia. “There was no foul play.”
They concluded by asking the audience to “have respect for our mother… That’s what she deserves.”
The most prominent voice calling for an investigation into the death is Al B. Sure!, whose real name is Albert Joseph Brown III. He is Porter’s ex and Quincy’s biological father. (Diddy raised Quincy, and Quincy considers the “I’ll Be Missing You” singer his father.)
In a series of Instagram posts, Al B. Sure! called on authorities, including the FBI, CIA, New York Police Department, and Los Angeles Police Department, to investigate Porter’s death. He claims there is a conspiracy and that her death, from natural causes, was in fact a “tragic murder.”
Cassie Ventura, who is mentioned in Al B. Sure!’s posts and dated Diddy on and off for 11 years before splitting in 2018, sued the Bad Boy Entertainment head in 2023 for rape, assault and sex trafficking. It led to sexual abuse lawsuits against him — including a new one filed on Sept. 24 by plaintiff Thalia Graves — and federal charges.
Yahoo Entertainment has reached out to the LAPD to see if any formal requests have been made to investigate Porter’s death. “There is no comment at this time,” a spokesperson said.

How did Porter die?
On November 15, 2018, Porter was found unconscious in her Toluca Lake, California, home and pronounced dead at the scene. At the time, it was reported that she had been suffering from flu-like symptoms for several weeks and had contacted her doctor because she was not improving. An autopsy report later revealed that she had died of lobar pneumonia.
Following her death, Diddy posted a tribute on social media, writing, “I don’t know what I’ll do without you, sweetheart… We were more than best friends, we were more than soulmates. WE WERE DIFFERENT S—!! And I miss you so much.”

What’s up with the memoirs?
Kim’s Lost Words was self-published by Chris Todd (real name Todd Guzze), under the pseudonym “Jamal T. Millwood for Kimberly A. Porter,” September 6 on Amazon.
Todd told Rolling Stone he was given a flash drive with the book by two sources in the music industry. While he “believes it’s true,” he said he can’t guarantee it.
“If someone were to put me on the spot and say, ‘Life or death, is that book real?’ I would say I don’t know,” he said.
The memoir, reportedly riddled with typos and inaccuracies, describes orgies at Diddy’s home and alleges he physically abused Porter. In the final section, Porter allegedly wrote about how ill he felt and texted a friend, “He got me,” implying it was Diddy, before she called 911 and was found unconscious.
“Kim Porter’s family is investigating all of their [legal] “There are other options,” a source close to the family told People.
Al B. Sure!, who said he remained friends with Porter, dismissed the book’s contents as “fake” on social media. Porter’s friends Kimora Lee Simmons and Lawanda Lane told Rolling Stone they don’t know the author. Lane added that “every page in that book is false” and that the “extremely private” Porter was not working on a memoir before her death.
Why are people calling for an investigation into Porter’s death?
Following his arrest, Diddy’s actions and words have come under scrutiny, not only by the prosecutors in his case, but also by the public.
Over the past week, numerous old interviews with Diddy have surfaced on X and TikTok, with past comments he made about women and partying being re-evaluated in light of the allegations. It is alleged that Diddy held “freak-offs” in which he forced women to participate in days-long sex performances with paid sex workers. He would ply the women with drugs, the lawsuit alleges, and secretly film them in order to potentially use the material against them.
Is Porter mentioned in any of Diddy’s lawsuits?
April Lampros filed a lawsuit against Diddy in May, accusing him of sexually abusing her multiple times in the 1990s when she was a fashion student and he was her mentor. She alleged that in 1996, she was ordered to Diddy’s apartment, had ecstasy forced down her throat, and was forced to have sex with Porter while Diddy masturbated.
Lampros also claimed that Diddy and Porter later had her fired.
