Klint Kubiak makes Taysom Hill do things he’s “never done before”

Taysom Hill has done a lot of things in the Saints offense over the years, but new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is trying to find new ways to get the Swiss Army knife involved.

“The more we can do, the better it is better and more difficult,” Hill said, via Matthew Paras of nola.com.

Hill has lined up as a running back, fullback, outside receiver, slot receiver, H-back and tight end and has worked with the tight ends and running backs in the individual portion of the offseason program, according to Paras. Hill doesn’t play quarterback.

“It was a lot of fun,” Hill said. “It’s strange to say that after seven years of doing what I’ve done, I’m being asked to do things I’ve never done before. I find that exciting, it’s a challenge and I like to be challenged in that way. I am grateful for the guys who create unique and fun opportunities for me.”

According to Pro Football Focus, only 29 of Hill’s 426 offensive shots came from the backfield last season, and only one of those came as a fullback.

Kubiak was the 49ers’ passing game specialist last season as fullback Kyle Juszczyk made his eighth consecutive Pro Bowl and was voted All-Pro for the first time.

Kubiak and Hill had a “candid” but positive conversation about Kubiak’s view of Hill’s role in his offense, and the two are now working on that view.
