Knicks sign Landry Shamet, waive Matt Ryan

The Knicks and Landry Shamet have agreed to a deal that will see the veteran guard return to New York after a two-month hiatus, his agent told SNY’s Ian Begley on Sunday.

In a corresponding move, the Knicks ventured forward Matt Ryan.

Shamet originally signed with the Knicks on September 14, but he was released a month later after dislocating his shoulder in a preseason game against the Charlotte Hornets.

The 27-year-old impressed, averaging 10.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists over 22.1 minutes in his four preseason appearances.

Shamet was expected to start the season in the rotation, so New York decided to select him in the G League Draft so he could continue his rehabilitation with the organization.

Now that he’s back, Begley notes that prominent Knicks people believe he can help strengthen the bench unit.
