Knife seized from Columbia Middle School student

Columbia Middle School confirmed Monday that a student was found on campus with a knife.

In a letter to parents, school officials said the student showed the knife to another student on the bus.

Columbia County School District police investigated and found a knife in the student’s possession, the letter said. The knife was immediately recovered and the student is being held accountable under the code of conduct and the law.

No threats were made against the school, students or staff, the school said. It is unclear whether the child has been charged criminally.

“The safety of students and staff is a top priority,” officials wrote in the letter. “Parents, please speak with your student about items that are not appropriate for school and the serious consequences that will result.”

Suspicious behavior should always be reported promptly to a school administrator, the Columbia County School District Police, or by contacting CCSD’s anonymous tip line at 706-541-3600.
