Land Rover is about to build Range Rovers outside Britain for the first time

Range Rovers will soon be built outside BritainJAGUAR LAND ROVER

Jaguar Land Rover has been owned by Indian mega-conglomerate Tata since 2008, but it’s still surprising that the rather fantastic new Range Rover is only now starting local production there. Range Rovers will soon roll off the production line at Tata’s Pune plant.

The meeting is expected to start next month EVO India reports, and those of India Business today notes that deliveries of the locally produced Range Rovers will begin “immediately.” Locally produced Range Rover Sports will go on sale in August Business today.

Why is production only taking place now? Well, JLR has been running this factory since 2011 to build other models, so it’s not just a matter of there suddenly being a place to produce Range Rovers.

More pertinently, Range Rover sales in India have soared, following a “160% increase in Range Rover retail sales in India for the current fiscal year,” reports Business today. The idea is to reduce costs and waiting times, while also reducing prices for these models in India.

It’s a remarkable turn for Range Rover, which has always built its iconic vehicles in Britain – and a real sign of how automotive manufacturing continues to evolve globally in new ways.
