A person pulled over by police for a traffic stop in South Los Angeles fired shots at officers Wednesday night, causing a graze wound to one of them, Los Angeles police said.

The shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. near Broadway and West 135th Street in the Willowbrook neighborhood, the LAPD said. The suspect conducting the traffic stop reportedly began shooting at officers and they returned fire, police said.

The shooter was still at large the next morning.

The LAPD has not released a statement explaining why officers stopped the driver.

According to police, the other officer involved may have been injured by broken glass from the gunfire. It is not known whether the shooter was also shot and injured.

Both officers are in stable condition, according to the LAPD.

Police have not released any other details, not even a description of the suspect.
