The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office says the northwest portion of Interstate 270 has become a racetrack at times, putting lives at risk, according to our news partner WBNS in Columbus.

Cars are traveling faster than 100 miles per hour, and officers target that section of highway on specific days and times.

“These individuals are engaging in criminal activity while doing this,” said Deputy Jim Gilbert. “Many of them are carrying firearms and many of these vehicles have been stolen.”

Police made nine stops related to street racing during one operation and the top speed was 170 km/h, according to WBNS.

They also worked with the Columbus Police Department and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
