The leader of Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), Alice Weidel, said on Wednesday that Donald Trump is a role model for Germany as the former president appeared close to victory in the US election.
When asked on Germany’s Deutschlandfunk radio whether Trump and his ‘Make America Great Again’ (MAGA) movement were examples for the AfD, Weidel said: ‘Make America Great Again – making Germany great – oh certainly! Because we as AfD stand up for national interests and for the people of the Federal Republic of Germany. Of course he is a role model for us.”
Weidel also said the US election could be a model for Germany, speaking of the clear statement Trump’s campaign made “against mass migration, crime and economic decline, against misguided climate ideology, misguided gender ideology and war policies.”
It wasn’t “Woke Hollywood” that decided this election, she said, but working people.
Regarding Trump’s planned possible tariffs on EU products and their impact on Germany’s export sector, Weidel said Germany’s problems were self-made, citing high energy prices and taxes.
The conservative broadcaster Fox News has already declared Republican candidate Trump the overall winner against Democrat Kamala Harris, but other media networks and the American news agency AP have not done so. Trump declared himself the winner in a speech in Florida.
