PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Hundreds of people gathered Wednesday at Independence Mall in Old City Philadelphia for Salute to Service, a performance by the U.S. Army Field Band and the Soldiers’ Chorus.
Two-time Grammy winner LeAnn Rimes also performed.
“I just think it’s awesome,” said Laura Taylor, of Southwest Philadelphia. “It’s very patriotic and I think that’s what we need in this time of division that’s going on right now to bring us all together. And I’m proud to be here to support this.”
“It’s important to be part of the American celebration,” said Michael Biello of South Philly.
During the patriotic, free concert, an important lesson emerged: “This stands for everything, I mean freedom, and I think sometimes we take what we have for granted, and we need to come out and support each other … and stand tall, love each other and take care of each other,” Taylor said.
