Dec. 15 – Ligonier police are seeking the public’s help in connection with a robbery downtown Thursday.
Police were called to a robbery at the Ligonier Liquor Store, 100 S. Cavin St., Ligonier, on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. When police arrived, the suspects had already fled the scene, but they were able to locate the possible vehicle as described by witnesses and conduct a traffic stop moments later.
As of 8:44 p.m., three suspects were in custody
During the investigation, Ligonier police found several thousand dollars in stolen merchandise in the vehicle, matching items from several other store robberies in surrounding communities.
Police are seeking additional information about the possible theft ring and say they will work with other law enforcement agencies.

Elkhart man crashes into tree
An Elkhart man was hospitalized Saturday morning after his vehicle crashed into a tree.
Elkhart County deputies reported that at 10:46 a.m., Christopher Ott, 47, of Elkhart, was driving west on CR 42 and approaching the CR 27 intersection when his 2018 Ford Expedition left the roadway at CR 42 and swerved back, causing the other left. At the end, he drove through a yard in the 17000 block of CR 42 before hitting a tree and coming to a complete stop.
Ott and his passenger were transported to Goshen Hospital with head, neck and other injuries. The passenger had to be removed from the vehicle.
Crash sends one to the hospital
Goshen police responded to a crash Thursday at 1:26 p.m. that sent one person to the hospital.
According to Goshen police, Paul Vellner, 47, of South Bend, drove straight on US 33 and passed through the intersection at Meijer Drive in a 2018 Freightliner Cascadia owned by Lippert. He was following Nathaniel Robinson, 36, of Elkhart, in a 2017 Ford F-150 when the light turned yellow and Vellner said the Robinson slammed his brakes, police reported. The Freightliner crashed into the truck.
Robinson said he did not stop suddenly, but the light turned yellow and he did stop, the police report states.
A passenger in Robinson’s vehicle, Robin Smith, 57, of Elkhart, was hospitalized for pain.
ARRESTS
– A 14-year-old boy from Goshen High School, 401 Lincolnway East, was arrested Friday at 2 p.m. and released into the Elkhart County Juvenile Detention Center after being arrested on a charge of possession of marijuana. The teenager would be released into the custody of his parents.
– A 39-year-old man was arrested and jailed by Goshen police at 12:23 a.m. Saturday on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and never obtaining a driver’s license after being stopped for a moving violation near Elkhart Road and Rieth Boulevard .
– A 27-year-old man was arrested and jailed by Elkhart County deputies Thursday at 11:51 p.m. on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated after being involved in a crash near US 33 and CR 50.
HIT-AND-RUN
A 27-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies at 11:16 a.m. Thursday that a collision had occurred at his home in the 22000 block of Ind. 120. A 45-year-old woman was summoned and released.
OFFICIAL REPORT
– Goshen police were notified at 8:16 a.m. Friday of narcotics found by an Oaklawn employee.
– The Crossing, 1824 Reliance Road, reported to Goshen police Friday at 4:09 p.m. that marijuana was found.
CRIMINAL ILLEGAL
Goshen police were called to the Chase Bank parking lot, 401 S. Main St., at 2:05 p.m. Thursday, where a 61-year-old man reported someone had locked his car following a traffic accident.
THEFT
– A 28-year-old woman reported to Goshen police at 3:55 a.m. Saturday that her phone was stolen while she was at the El Imperial Bar, 113 S. Main St.
– A 51-year-old woman reported to Elkhart County deputies that between 12:07 p.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday, someone she knew stole a FedEx package and delivered it to the wrong address in the 14000 block of US 20 in Middlebury.
—Goshen police were notified of a possible drug theft at Majestic Healthcare, 2400 College Ave., on Thursday at 4:35 p.m.
FRAUD
– Goshen police were notified at 9:09 a.m. Friday of a possible fraud in the 800 block of Logan Street.
– A 33-year-old man reported impersonation in the 1900 block of Lighthouse Lane to Goshen police Friday at 2:52 p.m.
– An 82-year-old woman reported to Elkhart County deputies Thursday at 3 p.m. that someone posed as Apple Support and stole $10,000.
– A 28-year-old woman reported to Elkhart County deputies that fraud had occurred between Dec. 6 and Thursday.
-Service Printers Inc., 28574 Phillips St., Elkhart, reported to Elkhart County deputies that between Nov. 29 and Thursday, someone altered his check for a vendor and cashed it.
