The Detroit Lions’ injury problems on defense continued Sunday, with the team losing two cornerbacks in the first half of the game against the Buffalo Bills. Carlton Davis III and Khalil Dorsey were injured and left the game early.
Davis entered the locker room first and underwent concussion treatment while being evaluated for a jaw injury. It was initially doubtful that Davis would return before he was later demoted to out.
But worse was Dorsey, who was carted off the field in the second quarter with a lower leg injury. Dorsey’s left foot was bent back at an awkward angle during a collision near the end zone and was eventually strapped to a backboard and wheeled to the locker room with an aircast on his left leg. The entire team gathered on the field while Dorsey was evaluated.
Dorsey was officially ruled out shortly afterwards due to an ankle injury.
It marks two more big blows to a Lions defense already decimated by injuries. Detroit has a slew of defensemen on injured reserve, including third-year defenseman Aidan Hutchinson, who broke his leg in October. More than three-quarters of the team’s injured players come from the defensive team.
The Bills led the Lions 21-14 at halftime.
