Local law enforcement shuts down illegal casinos and seizes more than 845,000

The Florida Gaming Control Commission worked with law enforcement agencies from Brevard and Volusia Counties to crack down on illegal gambling activities and shut down five illegal casinos.

The FGCC said it has closed five illegal casinos and seized illegal gambling machines from two business establishments.

“The collaborative relationships developed between the Florida Gaming Control Commission and our partner law enforcement agencies are essential to fulfilling our mission, and these efforts are making an impact,” said Ross Marshman, acting executive director of the Florida Gaming Control Commission. “Through innovative strategies, enhanced resources and collaboration, these partnerships reflect our commitment to promoting trust and accountability while effectively addressing the public safety concerns associated with illegal gambling venues.”

On Tuesday, FGCC agents helped the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office execute a search warrant on five illegal casinos in the county.

According to the FGCC, more than 500 illegal gambling machines, related equipment and more than $845,000 were seized.

Investigators said a 2022 Chevy Silverado, which was actively used to transport the money from the illegal casinos, was also seized.

The five illegal casinos were located at:

  • 190 Malabar Road, Suite 121, Palm Bay

  • 4940 Stack Blvd Suite D1-D2, Melbourne

  • 780 Apollo Boulevard, Melbourne

  • 1882 N. Wickham Rd, Melbourne

  • 950 N. Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island

On Thursday, FGCC officials and Port Orange police said residents raised concerns about two independent businesses.

Investigators said more than $6,000 and 19 illegal slot and slot machines were seized.

Three arrests were made on charges of operating illegal gambling establishments and illegally possessing slot machines and gaming equipment.

The two locations were:

  • Stop & Go Supermarket, 5687 S. Ridgewood Ave, Port Orange

  • Mark and Jill’s Village Tavern, 5263 S. Nova Rd, Port Orange
