Local leaders weigh in on Trump’s assessment

May 30—GOSHEN — Several Elkhart County leaders shared their input on Donald Trump’s conviction in his hush money trial in New York.

Dan Holtz, chairman of the Elkhart County Republican Party, described the criminal case against Trump as “political” in nature.

“It was, first and foremost, a ridiculous clown show of a process,” Holtz said by phone Thursday. “It was a political persecution. What it tells intelligent voters is that the Democratic Party is trampling everything that gets in their way, including the rule of law, to cheat in elections.”

The office of Indiana 2nd District Congressman Rudy Yakym released the following statement.

‘The rule of law has existed here in America for more than 235 years, but Joe Biden has destroyed it in a fake Soviet show trial, because he is losing badly to President Trump in the polls. Biden and the left’s total lust for power and their attacks on democracy are despicable and must be defeated at the ballot box in November.

“President Trump has already been acquitted in the court of public opinion. Americans overwhelmingly view this sham witch hunt for the blatant political persecution that it is, and this baseless outcome will only help President Trump on his path to victory in November and Making America. Great weather.”

Chad Crabtree is chairman of the Elkhart County Democratic Party.

“Today’s verdict underlines the principle that no one is above the law, reaffirming the strength of our democratic system,” Crabtree said by email Thursday. “As we move forward, let us focus on unity, justice and upholding the values that define our nation.”
