Beamon, who has been principal since 2021, has to oversee more than 63,000 students during the school year, including two of her own children.

“My youngest still needs a little more encouragement to get excited, but yeah, and I like to think about what the new year will bring for all of our students, including mine,” Beamon said.

This year the emphasis is primarily on student safety and security.

“Our top priority is safety and security, so it is always our top priority to make sure that through our partnership with SCSO (Seminole County Sheriff’s Office) and all local law enforcement agencies, we can create the best environment for our students,” Beamon said.

In addition to safety, Beamon says her focus is on thinking ahead, preparing for the new school year and ensuring students who graduate are ready for our ever-changing world.

She says artificial intelligence and cybersecurity are new programs.

Another focus this year is connecting parents and promoting parental involvement, including programs focused on mental health.

“We have mental health counselors, we have school psychologists, we have social workers. And it depends on the needs of the population at the school how many of those providers are on campus on a given day.”
