Long Beach police announced Saturday that they have arrested two suspects allegedly linked to multiple armed robberies in the area.

According to a statement from Long Beach police, the two men were arrested following an armed robbery that occurred Monday in the 6500 block of Cherry Avenue.

Officers spotted the suspect car in the area, leading to a short pursuit during which the driver failed to stop. The chase came to an abrupt end when they hit a curb and came to a stop.

Both men, since identified as 49-year-old Long Beach man James Pierce and 29-year-old Maywood man Jose Angel Rios Pinedo, were arrested at the scene. Officers claim to have discovered a firearm and some evidence linking them to the robbery.

Pierce was charged with suspicion or theft, criminal threatening with intent to terrorize, firearm charges and reckless driver, Long Beach police said.

After investigators looked into similar incidents that occurred in 2023 and 2024, they concluded that Pinedo may be responsible for at least five other robberies in Long Beach. They served a search warrant at his home and say evidence was found linking him to additional incidents.
