Long delays for passengers at the port of Dover

There are major delays for those at the port of Dover trying to reach the continent over their bank holidays.

The port reported a two-hour processing time at French border controls at Dover at 9am BST.

It posted on social media that ferry companies would receive passengers on their next available sailings.

A spokesperson advised that travelers should remain in their vehicles for safety reasons and thanked passengers for their patience.

He said: We are experiencing extremely heavy traffic this morning and are working with the French border police. Kent Highways and Kent Police to clear the queues as quickly as possible.”

A spokesperson for ferry company DFDS said: “We expect a busy weekend.

“We strongly recommend that all customers have a confirmed reservation

“On arrival, please allow 120 minutes to complete border and check-in checks.”

According to National Highways, the eastbound A20 Roundhill tunnel is closed between the M20 (J13/A259/A2034) and the A260 near Folkestone.

This closure is to prevent traffic queuing in the tunnel due to the delays at Dover.

During the holiday weekend, a traffic control system is in place for trucks queuing to cross the English Channel.

Operation Brock sees trucks bound for Dover queuing on one side of the M20, while the other carriageway acts as a thoroughfare.

It covers a 20.9 kilometer section of the motorway between junctions eight (Maidstone) and nine (Ashford).
