Long-time Barney’s Beanery valet seriously injured after attack outside West Hollywood restaurant

A longtime server at beloved West Hollywood restaurant Barney’s Beanery is still recovering from the violent attack he suffered outside the business over the weekend.

Efrain Zarazua, better known to customers as Frankie, was chased by the unknown assailant outside the restaurant in the 8400 block of Santa Monica Boulevard on Saturday night around 10:30 p.m.

Surveillance footage shows shocking moments as the suspect, shirtless and wearing a white hat, knocks Zarazua to the ground, stomps on him and repeatedly kicks him in the head.

“Frank remains in critical condition in intensive care with multiple injuries to his head, neck and body,” a post on the restaurant’s Instagram page said. “Frankie has been a part of Barney’s team for over 30 years. He is kind, funny and welcoming to everyone he meets.”

According to AJ Sacher, the restaurant chain’s chief operating officer, Zarazua is essentially the face of the business, as he greets almost everyone who comes in.

“He’s someone people greet. They know him all over town and beyond because he’s such a fixture there,” Sacher said.

Investigators are searching for the suspect in what they are calling attempted murder. They have not yet determined whether he is homeless and are releasing photos in the hope that someone can identify him.

They also noted that he assaulted two other people that night. Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Zarazua’s son Chris spoke to KCAL News about his father’s brutal attack, which left him with a broken jaw and other head injuries.

“My blood boiled when I saw this person attack my father,” he said. “It was pretty brutal. It was heartbreaking to see.”

He says his father loves his job, especially parking the expensive cars and meeting celebrities like Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash and “Harry Potter” actor Tom Felton.

“Something has to be done. There has to be justice for my father,” he said.

As their investigation continues, family members hope to raise money to help pay for Zarazua’s medical expenses. His son says it’s being kept a secret from him so he can see all the support and love he’s received since being in the hospital.

Zarazua is no longer in critical condition and continues to recover in hospital, where he can finally talk to his family.
