October 10 – October August 10, 1949, in The Star: Anniston’s Community Chest campaign kicks off tomorrow morning with a kick-off breakfast at the Jefferson Davis Hotel. Volunteers hope to raise $57,393 this year. Roger Milroy, chairman of the breakfast committee, and Gordon Mallory, chairman of the general campaign, are insisting that every employee be present for the breakfast program, segments of which radio station WHMA will record and broadcast later in the day. The following agencies receive money from the General Fund: Salvation Army, School Milk Fund, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Addie Weaver Mission, Care of Infants, Teen Canteen, YMCA, emergency assistance and internal costs. The campaign headquarters will be located in the Alabama Power Company building, directly across 12th Street from the post office. Phone 5491.
On October 10, 1999, The Star: Grace Episcopal Church in Anniston yesterday held its third annual Lobsterfest, which has collectively raised approximately $20,000 for Habitat for Humanity over the past two years. This year, organizers expect to raise more than $15,000 from the sale of nearly 1,700 lobsters.
