Looking back at the KAT-Randle trade, changes to NBA All-Star Weekend and why more teams aren’t tanking

In this episode of the Good word with good willSenior NBA reporter Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports is joined by Fred Katz, senior NBA writer for The Athletic, to discuss the fallout from the Karl Anthony-Towns trade and much more.

The boys start in Los Angeles, where Vince worries that Lakers head coach JJ Redick is headed for burnout and Fred wonders what’s wrong with their defense, before making the reported changes to the NBA All-Star Game discusses.

The New York Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves made a blockbuster trade on the eve of the NBA season, but both teams have struggled to find their identity and their defense since then. How can Tom Thibodeau turn around the Knicks’ defense? And can the Timberwolves survive without 37-year-old Mike Conley?

Finally, the rumored race to the bottom for Cooper Flagg isn’t quite what it’s cracked up to be. Most teams at the bottom of the standings are there by accident and not on purpose, and Vinnie wonders if this is a side effect of the CBA and the parity now built into the league. Should the league also give up conferences for the sake of better teams in the NBA Playoffs?
