A 17-year-old girl was stabbed to death by an 18-year-old man on Friday evening, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which has described the suspect as an “acquaintance” to the victim.
Azusa police officers responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 300 block of North Soldano Avenue in the town of Azusa around 10 p.m., where they found the girl suffering from stab wounds, sheriff’s officials said. She was rushed to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Homicide detectives from the sheriff’s department took over the investigation. The department has said the victim’s identity is not being released because she is a minor.
On Saturday morning, sheriff’s officials confirmed the suspected killer was in custody. His identity had not been released by sheriff’s officials as of 2 p.m. Saturday.
No other information has been released by the law enforcement agency, including a suspected motive or details about whether — or how — the suspect and victim knew each other.
The case will be referred to the LA County District Attorney’s Office for review of the charges.
