Low pressure area in Caribbean could pose tropical threat to Florida next week

Channel 9 meteorologists are monitoring a low pressure area that could impact Florida.

Update from 3:45 PM

Although nothing is visible yet, a tropical disturbance could develop in the western Caribbean this weekend and move into the southern Gulf early next week.

A combination of very warm water, some extra buoyancy and other factors are being closely monitored.

Global forecasting models differ on the future course of any form, but that is not uncommon.

Nothing visible yet, but a tropical disturbance could develop in the western Caribbean this weekend.

Original story:

The area will see a 20% development in the Caribbean over the next seven days.

It is too early to say what will happen with the storm, but the forecast models do give an indication.

The European model keeps this area far away from Florida, while the US model moves a stronger system closer to Florida.

According to the US model, there is a possible hurricane threat for Florida at the end of next week.
