Luis Noyola to remain in prison after allegedly murdering family with hammer

Luis G. Noyola, 46, was held without bond this week in Doña Ana County District Court for allegedly killing his father and brother with a hammer on June 23, 2024.

Noyola is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of tampering with evidence after investigators say he cleaned up DNA evidence throughout the home, including of the suspected murder weapon in the sink.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 9, presided over by 3rd Judicial District Judge Douglas Driggers.

According to court documents, Noyola allegedly told police he had killed his father and brother when police arrived following a requested welfare check on Noyola’s sister. Noyola, who lives at the residence with his parents and brother, told police he believed his brother, 51-year-old Lucio Noyola, had stolen his identity and was controlling his electronic devices. He also told police he believed his family had put urine or feces in his food.

According to court documents, Noyola grabbed a hammer from the backyard and approached his father, 88-year-old Francisco Noyola, and his brother as they looked at something on the computer. He first hit his brother in the head and then his father with the intent to kill them, according to court documents. Noyola then moved the bodies from the living room to his father’s room. Court documents show Noyola denied his mother and sister access to the home as he tried to clean up after the crime and even tried to convince others to help him clean.

On June 23, 2024, Las Cruces police were called to 1105 Wofford Dr. sent for a welfare check requested by his sister. Noyola’s sister had picked up their mother earlier and upon returning, Noyola told them, “You don’t want to come in here,” and did not open the door.
