Today an episode with campaign-related news items from all over the country.

* The good news for Republicans is that Michael Rulli won a special congressional election in Ohio yesterday, which will strengthen the slim Republican majority in the House of Representatives. The bad news for Republicans is that the race was closer than expected in a ruby-red district.

* Yesterday’s notable primary results included congressional races in South Carolina, where incumbent Republican Reps. Nancy Mace and William Timmons defeated intra-party rivals.

* During the North Dakota Republican Party gubernatorial elections, Donald Trump endorsed Rep. Kelly Armstrong, while outgoing Governor Doug Burgam endorsed Lt. Governor Tammy Miller. In the end it was Armstrong who had the upper hand.

* In Ohio, the latest Marist poll showed Trump leading President Joe Biden 48% to 41%, but equally notable, the same survey showed incumbent Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown leading Republican Bernie Moreno 50% to 45%.

* Speaking of Biden, the incumbent president’s reelection campaign this week unveiled a new digital ad highlighting Trump’s close ties to former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Politico reported that the ad targets Latinos in three swing states: Arizona, Nevada and Pennsylvania.

* Elias Irizarry, who was sentenced to two weeks behind bars after participating in the January 6 riot, became the latest January 6 candidate to lose on the ballot: Irizarry failed yesterday against an incumbent Republican state lawmaker in South Carolina.

* And in Texas, Brandon Herrera lost a Republican primary last month against incumbent Rep. Tony Gonzales. Herrera, who runs a gun rights YouTube channel, is now seeking a recount.
